TRS1 1.9 Social Innovation and Action SRC Award The Social Innovation and/or Action Scholarly Research and Creative (SRC) Award is a university-wide, annual award that recognizes excellence in SRC initiatives done in collaboration with community partners which lead to the strengthening of civil society either through program or policy impact(s). Unique and innovative projects may include initiatives such as, but not limited to, corporate social responsibility, public-private partnerships, new ventures, technological innovations, or process improvements within existing non-profit or government organizations in areas such as poverty alleviation, education, health, human rights, diversity and inclusion, violence prevention, peace building, sustainability, capacity building and/or engagement.
Award recipient(s) will receive a certificate of recognition and a monetary award of $2,000 as a one-time payment (subject to applicable deductions).

Lixia Yang
Faculty of Arts
Dr. Lixia Yang is a leading scientist specializing in aging, cognition, and psychosocial wellbeing. Her research addresses societal challenges related to the aging population and shows significant social and transformative impacts on active and healthy aging in Canada with technological innovations and prevention/intervention programs. These programs aim to promote resilience and psychosocial functions of vulnerable populations, including older adults and immigrants. Dr. Yang has 95 peer-refereed publications and has received funding from CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC, Mitacs, and AGE-WELL. Her research and community service have been recognized with such distinguished awards as the Dean's SRC Award and Queen's Platinum Jubilee Award. Toronto Metropolitan University Award 2025-03-18 Dean’s SRC Award The Dean's Scholarly, Research and Creativity Activity Award recognizes individual faculty members on an annual basis for outstanding scholarly, research and creative activities (SRC) achievements and impact on their disciplines during the previous academic year.

Lixia Yang
Faculty of Arts
Dr. Lixia Yang is an exceptional psychologist with expertise in aging, cognition, and wellbeing. She has built thriving national and international collaborations with researchers from different institutes and community/industry partners. Her research addresses societal challenges related to aging with transformative impacts on active and healthy aging in Canada. Dr. Yang is also a community leader who has been actively promoting psychological wellbeing of Chinese immigrants in Canada. She has 95 peer-reviewed publications and currently holds grants from NSERC and SSHRC. Her research excellence has been recognized with a NSERC Early Career Researcher Award and the 2020 Dean's SRC Award.
